Founding Engineer (Full-Stack) — MuseAI
Founding Engineer (Full-Stack) — MuseAI
MuseAIWe believe in a few things.
One is doing things tastefully.
So we don’t consider this a job description.
It’s an invitation to build something impactful.
And rather than list a set of attributes up front.
We’d like to tell a bit of a story.
So enjoy.

About MuseAI
MuseAI is the home for musical ideas and work-in-progress music — a tasteful workspace where creators capture, organise, ideate, share, and collaborate on the raw creative output that usually dies scattered across 6+ pieces of software.
We’re building the operating system for musical ideation — the place where scattered recordings, lyric fragments, and demos take shape and become a living, shareable creative catalog.
We’re a Techstars-backed company (top 2% globally), with the ambition and taste of Jony Ive–era Apple.
Think of us as Notion, but for audio: a beautifully designed, AI-powered workspace where every idea is treated with the same care as a finished release.
⸻
About the Founder
You’ll be working alongside our founder, Jad, a lot.
I mean, a lot.
So, might as well know more about him.
He’s a violinist, composer, producer, lawyer, and writer who has spent years on both sides of the creative process — on stages across the world and in the studio — and built MuseAI to solve a problem that was leaving him beyond frustrated - losing his musical ideas and momentum.
He’s also a lawyer with a background in IP and Copyright and deeply understands the importance of artist rights.
The day of his admission. His mom must be so proud 🤦♂️.
He’s been dreaming about the genesis of muse since the day he could fit a violin in his hand, and beats studio headphones on his head.
⸻
Beliefs
Therefore, we have a few beliefs:
• Depth — We pursue the timeless, not the trite.
• Taste — Discernment in creative direction.
• Quality — We don’t ship junk.
• Elegant — A delight to use.
• Beauty — The cornerstone.
• Creative — Imagination, ideation, tools that amplify it.
• Substance — This over speed.
• Intuitive — Sensical in use.
⸻
Cool Facts
We also support and produce live music events because music is what we do, not just the industry we happen to be in. Joining MuseAI means plugging into a creative culture that cares deeply about real musicianship, performance, and the craft behind the work.
As part of onboarding, we require new team members to watch Whiplash — because we care about rigour, standards, and the uncomfortable, necessary tension between ambition and artistry.
⸻
About the role
We are looking for a Founding / First Engineer (Senior Full-Stack) to help build MuseAI from the earliest days.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You will build core features end-to-end, set engineering foundations, and help shape the product as we secure PMF. You will work directly with the founder and a small early team/collaborators, and you will have meaningful influence on what gets built and how.
This role is for someone who:
• Enjoys ambiguity
• Ships
• Thinks in systems
• Cares about craft
• Can build foundations that last
⸻
What you’ll be working on
Build and iterate on core product features (end-to-end)
• Implement new product surfaces across frontend, backend, and database.
• Turn loosely defined ideas into shipped improvements quickly and thoughtfully.
A practical stack (built for web now, native later)
• Backend: Python / Django
• Frontend (web): React.js
• Mobile: React Native (Expo) for iOS, with a strong focus on feeling native
• Database: PostgreSQL
You will help evolve the architecture so we can ship a cohesive experience across desktop and iOS without duplicating product logic unnecessarily.
Audio fundamentals (practical pipelines, not research)
• Build basic audio processing workflows that make the product feel real:
• Uploads, playback, trimming/cutting
• Simple transforms and reliable file handling
• Waveform generation or rendering primitives
• Make careful technical choices so we can later plug in deeper audio ML/AI work (whether done by you or by a specialist).
• Enable sharing and collaboration of these files in real-time.
AI-driven functionality (initially orchestration, not model training)
• Integrate with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) to support early AI workflows.
• Do exploratory work: experiment, tune heuristics, evaluate trade-offs between usefulness, performance, and complexity.
Foundations
• Reliability, performance, and security-minded engineering.
• Internal tooling and developer ergonomics that keep a small team fast.
• Clear code, clear reasoning, clear communication.
⸻
How you’ll work with the founder
• Work closely with Jad on product direction, priorities, and quality.
• Take problems from concept to shipped with minimal process overhead.
You are expected to:
• Explain and justify technical decisions with reasoning and evidence.
• Be open to critique and course correction.
• Disagree constructively and stay focused on outcomes.
This is a collaborative environment with a high bar and low ego. The goal is always the best result for the product and creators.
⸻
What we’re looking for
Must-haves
• Senior-level experience as a full-stack engineer.
• Strong experience with:
• Python (Django or similar)
• Modern frontend frameworks (React.js preferred)
• PostgreSQL and relational data modeling
• Comfort operating in pre-PMF ambiguity with incomplete requirements.
• Strong systems thinking (you do not just implement, you design).
• Strong communication skills and emotional maturity.
Equally important
• You can defend your technical choices, and change your mind when needed.
• You do not take feedback or disagreement personally.
• You care about forward progress and team effectiveness more than being right.
• You care about craft: performance, polish, and coherence.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience as an early or first engineer at a startup.
• Experience with AI/ML-adjacent systems, such as:
• LLM APIs, embeddings, eval workflows
• Neural networks and deep learning fundamentals
• Audio ML / generative audio models (for example: diffusion models, transformers, VAEs, self-supervised audio representations)
• Experience building or integrating practical audio tooling:
• Playback, waveform rendering, file pipelines, ffmpeg-based workflows
• Experience shipping React Native / Expo apps (or an opinionated interest in doing it well).
• Comfort with cloud infrastructure, deployment workflows, and observability.
• A strong relationship to music:
• Musician, producer, songwriter, composer, DJ, or serious hobbyist
• Or a deep interest in music and creator tools (you care about the craft, not just the category)
⸻
Working style & expectations
• Curiosity, humility, and adaptability matter more than knowing every tool already.
• Ignorance is fine. Unwillingness to learn or collaborate is not.
• You can handle having your ideas challenged, and you can challenge others constructively.
• You can keep building productively even when assumptions change.
⸻
Why this role is different
• You will help define the engineering foundation of a new category of creative tooling.
• You will have real influence, real ownership, and real proximity to product decisions.
• You will ship meaningful work that creators feel.
• As MuseAI grows, this role can evolve into technical leadership if that is what you want.
⸻
Compensation
• Competitive early-stage startup salary
• Meaningful equity / upside (discussed openly and transparently)
• Full-time, long-term role
⸻
Apply
Send:
• Resume or LinkedIn
• A short note answering:
• Why MuseAI resonates with you
• A product you consider a masterpiece of craft (any category) and why
• Something you built end-to-end that you are proud of (and what you would improve now)
