Social Media Lead

Social Media Lead
Works in Progress (Stripe)About the Role
As WIP's first Social Media Lead, you'll own our voice across platforms, shaping our strategy, creating posts, and deciding where and how we show up. You'll work alongside our Editorial and Design teams to translate long-form stories into social content that earns attention on its own terms — finding the right platforms, meeting the right moments, and building a community around ideas that matter.
What You'll Do
• Adapt long-form stories into the language of each platform: a share-worthy X thread, a dataviz-heavy IG carousel, or a smartly-timed Reddit post that gets people talking.
• Experiment across different corners of the internet to find where WIP resonates most, leading lean experiments across new channels and decisively doubling down on what works.
• Identify real-time openings in global policy, tech, and science conversations, and surface the relevant WIP pieces that best meet the moment.
• Ensure every post is as considered as the writing itself, delivering genuine value regardless of whether or not someone clicks through.
• Lead the conversation by engaging directly with our readers and followers in the comments, answering questions and sparking discussion.
Who You Are
• You have experience building communities for media outlets or policy-adjacent orgs, and you know how to translate nuanced arguments into platform-native wins.
• You move easily between different platforms, and have the writing skills to make complex ideas feel clear, direct, and impossible to ignore.
• Your "Following" tab is a mix of economists, urbanists, and scientists because that's what you actually find interesting.
• You think in visuals as much as in words, and you can collaborate with designers to turn technical concepts into attention-getting graphics.
• Bonus points if you have full-stack skills — you can write the copy, design the assets, and edit the videos without waiting on anyone else.
