The role
Our Applied AI team writes the prompts that make Tolans feel alive. You'll craft the instructions that shape Tolan personality, memory, and the way they engage with thousands of people every day.

This isn't just prompt engineering, you'll tackle complex systems challenges, designing multi-step pipelines that analyze user data and generate personalized experiences. Working closely with product, design, and engineering, you'll prototype new interaction patterns and ship prompts that make AI feel genuinely helpful and surprisingly human.

This role is perfect for someone with a strong intrinsic curiosity about AI and someone who already experiments with prompt writing, builds their own projects, or hacks on creative applications of LLMs.

You might be a fit if you:
Built and shipped an unreasonably cool AI project that we can check out
Obsess over every facet of how people interact with what you build
Spin off lots of ideas, prototype them by default, iterate fast, and delight in starting over from scratch when a better opportunity presents itself
Take pride in maintaining standards so high that most people think you’re crazy
Are as comfortable typing a sentence as you are conceptualizing complex, interlocking systems, and can synthesize both into making things people want
Want to help define what AI means for humanity
A technical professional background is not required, but you have used AI to make things on the internet, likely with some vibe coding along the way
