Anecdote is building the world’s most trusted travel concierge.
We make travel planning seamless and stress-free, not by replacing people with AI, but by using thoughtfully designed AI to give superpowers to a world-class human concierge team that actually cares. Our customers get a real, living and breathing expert travel agent in their pocket — one with empathy, intuition, and taste.
Travel is a service game. The magic comes from having someone who learns your preferences, anticipates your needs, helps you decide, sends your favorite champagne at check-in, and crucially, jumps in whenever things go wrong — in other words, someone who cares. In an age where customers are being bombarded with AI slop and chatbots that barely work, we believe it’s high time great service came back.
Today, travelers text us, get matched with a concierge, and receive curated hotel options, VIP perks, and real-time support. We’ve handled hundreds of stays and are on track to hit thousands this year. Customers trust us with their life’s biggest trips and call us their “highest NPS experience in a decade.”
Longer term, we’re working toward becoming the definitive high-touch, high-trust travel platform: end-to-end, expert-planned trips that work seamlessly because they’re designed by people who truly know the traveler.
In a world being rapidly enshittified by companies cutting corners and treating customer service as a cost center, we believe great service is a value proposition and a competitive advantage unto itself. Our partners at XYZ Venture Capital (recently Midas-listed) and OVO Fund share that conviction, and we’re looking for a Head of Marketing who’s excited to introduce the world to a radically better way to travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement our marketing strategy, especially content. You’ll have an expansive remit here: determining which channels to focus on, setting up the content engine for each channel, analyzing and optimizing our content, working with engineering to develop microsites, and whatever else you can think of. The world is your oyster.
- Build our content operating system. You’ll be making our content efforts into a well oiled machine, working with editors and external creators to develop high quality creative assets and ensuring everything we put out is something we can be proud of.
- Set up IRL events like pop-ups and suitcase parties to help us promote the brand within NYC (one of the largest traveler markets in the US!). Both the founder and Head of Ops are event planning enthusiasts, so you’ll have support here.
- Work closely with external creators and UGC providers, and represent the brand in partnership conversations.
- Pioneer the best way to message and position our unique offering to the world. Anecdote is very different from the travel planning experiences that people have used before, and 90% of our customers have never used a travel agency before. Figuring out how to most effectively message to customers is the key puzzle you’ll be solving.
- Ideally, become one of the faces for the company alongside the founder, especially in social media content.
Required Skills + Experience
- You’ve got 3+ years of work experience in general. We care more about your slope than years worked.
- You’ve built and managed a content program before, and you’ve grown at least one distribution channel from scratch or from very early stages.
- You know how great content is made, either by having made it yourself or overseeing a team making it based on your direction.
- You’ve got a highly-tuned sense of aesthetics and language.
- You’re highly analytical and love breaking things down and figuring out how and why they work.
- You’re detail-oriented, and the double spaces in this sentence made you physically cringe.
- You’re operationally strong. You can turn ideas into briefs, calendars, workflows, feedback loops, and shipped work.
Required Mindset
- You’re outgoing, charismatic, and you light up a room. Even if you don’t seek attention, you’re not scared to be in the limelight.
- You’re chronically online and you know all the trends and all the lore. Friends may call your screen time heinous but they really just don’t know ball like you do.
- You’re great at coming up with zany ideas. Anecdote is marketing a novel experience, which means thinking out of the box is table stakes. Just running ads isn’t a winning strategy.
- You’re thrilled to work in person in NYC. Some flexibility and WFH is permissible, but we’re growing fast and IRL collaborative energy remains unmatched.
- You’re convinced the ultimate use of today’s transformative GenAI technology cannot possibly be AI slop generators, half-baked AI wrappers and chatbots, and things that just drive people further apart. Deployed thoughtfully, AI can power bespoke experiences and make everyone feel like a VIP for once.
- You love to travel!
Nice-to-Haves
- You’ve managed someone before. You will be managing our video editor and other auxiliary content staff.
- You’ve owned brand positioning or spent lots of time working on brand messaging.
- You’re comfortable with being on camera. You don’t have to be a pro, but the idea of conducting a street interview should be exciting or at least intriguing, not terrifying.
- You’re comfortable with editing tools like Adobe Creative Cloud, Descript, Capcut, Canva, etc. You’ll have editing support, but knowing how to use these tools yourself is key.
- Everyone’s always asking you for your recs. You keep sharing the same Google map of your top pizza spots in NYC. Friends can’t stop asking you where you got your shoes.
- You’re a multi-hyphenate generalist who’s itching to explore projects beyond your current resume experience. The marketing responsibilities take priority, but if you’ve always wanted to spend time vibe-coding a marketing stunt site or dive deep into analyzing customer chats and interactions, you’ll get that freedom here at Anecdote.
Other Role Information
- The role is in-person in NYC with some WFH allowed.
- Compensation range: $140k-180k cash + 0.5-0.8% equity, negotiable based on experience and fit.
