Founding Full Stack Engineer
Founding Full Stack Engineer
ClipbookWhat You’ll Do:
Architect & build
• Make architectural decisions across the stack (right now, TypeScript, React, Python, Node, SQL/NoSQL). We want you to have the conviction to quickly build from concept to deployment to seeing clients love our product.
• At our early stage, we’re still tackling many foundational engineering problems (e.g. should we use Postgres or Firestore for our client-facing web app?). So we value a pragmatic, ”strong opinions, weakly held” mindset that prioritizes the decisions that will be difficult or painful to reverse later on.
Collaborate with customers
• Work directly with users to understand pain points, iterate quickly, and deliver solutions that matter.
Tackle a wide breadth of engineering challenges
• We have enough work that spans AI, data eng, backend, etc that we can find projects that match your strengths and interests. E.g.
• AI/ML Integration: Productionize LLMs and classical ML models for real-world, high-uptime applications. Leverage the latest in generative AI tooling and frameworks.
• Data Engineering: Build pipelines and infrastructure for ingesting, normalizing, and querying massive, multi-modal datasets.
Shape Clipbook’s eng culture
• As one of the first people on the team, you’ll help set our engineering standards, mentor future hires, and drive best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment. You’ll also shape our team’s culture.
• For example, we believe that everyone can and should be hands-on as an IC as we grow (even those in managerial roles).
⸻
What We’re Looking For:
3–5+ years building and scaling as a full stack engineer
• We expect you to be T-shaped, with some areas where you feel stronger and more capable than others, and that’s fine. Long-term, we aspire to have an engineering team where the whole org is well-rounded.
Genuine excitement to build quickly & ship fast
• Clipbook won’t be the right fit for you if you’re looking for a 9-5 job. We’re still a seed-stage startup (with Series A revenue metrics!) with lots to build and while it varies a lot from week-to-week but you can expect to work ~50 hours/week. We care more about what you get done than when/where you work, but we do believe that working together in-person (we’re hybrid 3-4x/week) builds camaraderie which translates to higher product velocity.
Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure, containerization, and CI/CD
• In the future when where we’re serving Fortune 500 CEOs, we need 5 9s of uptime across millions of datapoints so it’s helpful to have familiarity with cloud infra (AWS/GCP), containerization (Docker/K8s), and CI/CD to make that happen.
Experience optimizing data architectures for performance and cost
Strong product sense and bias for action
• We’re a small team and can’t afford to be caught in analysis paralysis since we often have to make decisions with incomplete information.
Bonus Points
• Experience with any of the following:
• LLM fine-tuning, RAG, or RLHF pipelines
• Familiarity with web scraping frameworks (Playwright, Puppeteer) and different types of API integrations (REST, GraphQL)
• Comfort with asynchronous workflows, rate-limiting, and distributed systems
• Experience in early-stage startups or as a technical founder is a huge plus
⸻
What You’ll Get:
Compensation
• $180–$210k salary, high-upside equity (from a team that understands commercial rigor and bootstrapping to 7-figures: pre-seed dilution but with Series A metrics), and full benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, unlimited PTO).
Ownership
• Direct influence on product and company strategy. Ship fast and drive impact.
Growth
• Opportunity to build and lead a world-class engineering team as we scale.
Culture
• High trust, low ego, rapid iteration, and a relentless focus on solving real customer problems.
Mission
• Join a team passionate about building tools that empower leaders to make sense of the world’s information chaos.
