Software Engineer, Backend
Nextplay LIVEAbout Next Play
At Next Play, we connect top technical talent with startup founders and operators to explore at high-growth early-stage companies. We partner with teams solving meaningful technical problems.
One of the teams we’re working with is reimagining how engineering knowledge is created and shared. Here’s a snapshot of the role:
Senior Backend Engineer | SF (Onsite)
This fast-growing startup (12 people, 8 engineers) is building the next-gen Confluence — rethinking how teams generate, share, and maintain knowledge. Instead of writing docs retroactively, they’re creating a real-time knowledge layer that evolves as teams build, ship, and collaborate across tools like Slack, Jira, and beyond.
The Role
You’ll own features end-to-end — from design to production — tackling challenges around data, performance, scale, and asynchronous workflows. This is engineering for engineers: building resilient systems that make developers’ lives easier.
You’ll also gain meaningful ownership in a company reimagining how engineering knowledge is captured and shared.
What They’re Looking For
- 2+ years of backend experience (Python required)
- Proven ability to build and scale production systems
- Comfortable jumping into frontend or infra when needed
- Either an ex-founding engineer or someone from big tech ready to dive back into startup life
- Excited to build in-person with a small, high-impact team
What You’ll Work On
- Identity layer across Slack, Jira, Confluence & other 3rd-party integrations
- Systems that understand who’s doing what and why across engineering workflows
Working Model
- 5 days onsite in San Francisco — open to candidates willing to relocate themselves
Compensation
- $140K–$200K base + equity
