📝 Role Overview

As a Fullstack AI Engineer, you’ll design and implement the intelligence layer behind Focal’s automation platform. This means designing and implementing AI-driven workflows using LLMs as building blocks - not training models from scratch, but orchestrating them into reliable, compliant, and production-ready systems.

You’ll work closely with the CTO and CPO to prototype, test, and scale AI-powered features that will transform how advisors, clients, and back office staff interact.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

• Lead development of Focal’s AI platform.
• Own features end-to-end — from architecture to deployment.
• Collaborate with product and design to turn complex workflows into simple, automated experiences.
• Push the boundaries of what’s possible with browser-native AI agents.

🎖️ Qualifications

Must have

• Strong sense of ownership and bias for action
• 5+ years professional experience working with backend systems
• Experience in AI/ML infrastructure and tooling
• Willingness to work across the stack
• Strong experience with Python (FastAPI)
• Solid foundation in TypeScript
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Preferred

• Familiarity with frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel.
• Familiarity with NestJS
• Familiarity with Postgres
• Experience in financial services or other compliance-heavy domains.
• Startup or early-stage experience

⛳ Compensation & Location

• Salary: $200k - $250k
• Equity: 0.5% - 2%
• Hybrid: San Francisco Bay Area (2–3 days in-office per week)
