The opportunity

As a founding AI engineer (first 2-3 team members), you’ll help architect, build, and ship foundational infrastructure that powers Chief.

What you’ll do

Build AI agents that actually work, moving beyond prototypes to tools that users genuinely trust and rely on.
Design and develop the core agent loop and toolkit, ensuring Chief has reliable and near-instant access to the most relevant context.
Shape product strategy, collaborating closely with the founding team to define product direction and influence user-facing features.
Own our evals infrastructure, ensuring that we’re continuously improving the quality of the agent.

Know your way around an LLM: you’ve actively built products with LLMs and understand their strengths and limitations.
Strong full-stack chops: you can comfortably ship across the stack and don’t like putting yourself in boxes.
Startup mindset: You thrive in a fast-paced and environment and approach uncertainty head-on.
Bonus points: prior experience training / fine-tuning models.

Before starting Chief, JB (founder / CEO) was an early product and software engineer at Airtable (first ~15 employees).
We raised a $2M pre-seed round from Alana Goyal @ basecase and Chad Byers @ Susa Ventures, and Howie Liu (Airtable founder / CEO) is involved as a founding investor / advisor.
We believe that a lean team of polymaths can punch well above their weight.
